2016 Clarke County Fair

2016 SWCD Scholarship Recipient

CDI is partnering with local soil and water conservation districts (SWCD) to foster the highter education endeavors of Iowa students interested in conservation and agriculture by offering scholarships.

​

Iowa High School Class 2016 students pursuing programs of study in any field of conservation or agriculture qualifies for the Conservation Scholarship. While this is a wide field and many studies qualify, preference will be given to students pursuing programs of study in conservation. The scholarship must be used for the student's first year of college education.

This year's deadline was February 26. This year's winner at County Level is Jacob Manternach, who currently attends Clarke Community High School in Osceola.

 

Jake received his $250 check at the awards banquet on May 18th. 

The Osceola FSA Office partnered with the Clarke County Soil & Water Conservation Office to have a booth set up in the exhibition building during the 2016 Clarke County Fair.

 

There was various information available about programs and options for farmers in regards to conservation practices that prevent soil erosion and promote water quality.

 

There were representatives available at various times during the fair to answer questions.

 

There were also tatoos, WhoBuddy books and trading cards available for kids.

 

The meeting was held on Thursday, October 27th from 5:30-8:00pm at the First Christian Church in Osceola. Carly Cummings with FarmHer gave a presentation about FarmHer and what its all about and the importance of women landowners.

 

There was information shared from the ISU Extension, FSA and the NRCS Offices. There was also a question and answer session. A meal and drinks were provided, along with some freebies donated by local businesses. FarmHer also had items available for purchase.

 

This year we had our contractors meeting at the Van Wert Community Center.
